School of river Paddling
Structure of the School
Classes are divided into kayaks, canoes and stand up paddle boards (SUP). Classes are small and generally have 4-6 participants and 2 instructors. Classes start with a dry land meeting Friday evening immediately after the 7:00 PM group meeting, then strenuous instruction on Siloam Springs lake on Saturday and on the river on Sunday.
The clinic will cover basic paddling strokes, maneuvers (ferries, eddy turns, peel outs), water reading, safety and rescue, and equipment outfitting. Boat control and safe, fun negotiation of rivers will be stressed. Students will be grouped mostly per boat type. All classes are led by American Canoe Association-certified instructors.
